Yang Ming Transport Corp. (Yang Ming) has announced that as part of its efforts to upgrade its Trans-Pacific service, it will add one additional 11,000 TEU container vessel, the ‘YM Travel.’

The carrier claimed in a statement that the vessel will “further boost its “mid-to-long-term operational efficiency” and that it is part of a 14-ship fleet of 11,000 TEU newbuild ships, of which the’ YM Travel’ is the sixth.

The vessels have a nominal capacity of 11,860 TEU and are fitted with 1,000 reefer container plugs. These vessels are designed to sail at a speed of up to 23 knots and have a length of 333.9 meters, a width of 48.4 meters, and a draft of 16 meters.

According to the carrier, scrubbers, a Water Ballast Treatment Plant, and an Alternative Marine Power system are among the ships’ environmental features.

The twin-island design is used on this vessel to maximize loading capacity and navigational vision, resulting in increased efficiency and safety. Optimizing the ship’s hull form will result in even more energy savings and a reduction in overall emissions.

Furthermore, the ships have a lower length and beam, making them easier to manage during berthing or departure. The expanded dimensions allow these ships to call at major ports worldwide and sail through the new Panama Canal without limitation, allowing for greater vessel deployment flexibility.

Beginning in 2020, Yang Ming started to receiving these new warships. These new structures will reduce the average age of the company’s global fleet, lower unit costs, and improve energy efficiency.

Additionally, these ships will hasten fleet optimization to meet the challenges and harsh environmental laws faced by the rapidly changing maritime industry.

There has been a spike in demand for container shipping. During this time, Yang Ming will maximize capacity utilization, significantly improve service quality, and provide even better service to global clients thanks to the deployment of these new vessels.

On July 30th, YM Travel will join THE Alliance’s trans-Pacific service PS6, which will operate between Qingdao, Ningbo, Pusan, Los Angeles, Oakland, Kobe, and Qingdao.
