The Foreign-Trade Zones program can play an important role in providing a level playing field when investment and production decisions are made.
Advantages of using a Foreign-Trade Zone:
Merchandise is not subject to U.S. duty or excise tax.
CBP duty and federal excise tax, if applicable, are only paid when sold for consumption.
Goods may be exported from the zone free of duty and excise tax.
Merchandise may remain in a zone indefinitely, whether or not subject to duty.
Relief from inverted tariffs.
